Fleurieu Living Magazine

Organic Constructions were stoked to be featured in the summer 24/25 issue of Fleurieu Living Magazine showcasing their Hempmade Haven in Chiton. The article was written by Zoë Kassiotis, who eloquently captured the qualities and atmosphere of our natural ecohome. We enjoyed the process of being interviewed and eagerly anticipated the publication along with the launch party!

The article denotes hempcretes outstanding performance (structural, aesthetic, environmental and longevity). Craig remarks on the contrasts to passive house concepts where a house is wrapped in plastic compared to hempcretes breathability whilst simultaneously insulating. Rhiannon’s quote “the unique feel of the house is difficult to describe, but the walls are soft and the space wraps you in a calm and peaceful energy’ depicts the feel of our welcoming home. Zoë was surpised at how airy and open it felt even though all doors and windows were closed - that’s all down to the breathable walls :) We also demonstrated the exceptional air quality with our reader. We laughed at Craig’s comments that you don’t need to be a ‘hippy’ to have a house that performs sustainably - meanwhile we’ve embedded a tree into the wall and hug our walls :) In all seriousness, when we think of the environmental implications and climate issues, also the increased minimum energy efficincy requirements under the National Construction Code, it makes perfect sense to use hempcrete.
